Sisters Folk Festival |
The Sisters Folk Festival is a three-day celebration
of American music,
“from blues to bluegrass.” The annual Festival is held in
September on
the weekend after Labor Day in the beautiful town of Sisters, Oregon.
The
Festival covers six stages, and includes workshops, the Dave Carter
Memorial Song Writing Contest and performances by internationally recognized
artists and the best of up-and-coming talent in folk, blues,
bluegrass and genres in between. |
Americana Song Academy |
Participants spend three days with Sisters Folk Festival
performers learning the craft of songwriting, lyric,
melody, guitar and performing.
The Academy is held at Caldera — an
intimate lodge and camp by the pristine waters of Blue Lake in the
Cascade Mountains. Gourmet food, clean air, and tall
trees create the perfect mood to immerse in music. Join the supportive
community of folks that call “Song Camp” home each year
for a
pilgrimage back to your creative self. |
Winter Concert Series |
Recently, the Sisters Folk Festival created a series of concerts
to bring even more outstanding acoustic music to Sisters
during the winter.
Attended by music lovers throughout the region, these
concerts showcase nationally touring acts in the charming
community of Sisters and provide a cultural experience for
all ages. Visiting artists teach and inspire local students as
part of the Americana Project curriculum. |
| Americana Project |
The Americana Project was developed to inspire the creativity of young
people and to demonstrate the cultural and historical significance of
American roots music and cultural expression.
As a collaboration between the Sisters Folk
Festival, Sisters School District and
Creative Educational Resources, LLC, the Americana Project has provided
a
forum for self-expression, creativity in the performing and visual arts,
and community engagement. The celebration of art and the human
condition through self-expression is alive and thriving within the
Sisters community.
Students in Sisters — from 5th graders singing
traditional spiritual songs, middle school students writing and
performing original songs, to high school students
writing, recording, teaching and performing — are
encouraged to develop their creative side and express
themselves artistically. |
My Own Two Hands |
My Own Two Hands is a community themed arts
fundraiser that draws from the talents of over
200 professional Central Oregon artists and
students in all three schools to create pieces of
art around a central theme. MOTH celebrates how
each individual can change their community for
the better with their own unique talent and skills.
The two-day event is
a celebration of art and music, and consists of an art stroll throughout
town, a performing arts evening showcasing music by Americana Project
students, and an art auction and party.
My Own Two Hands was awarded
the 2006 Fundraising Event of the Year by the Oregon Festival and Events
Association and has raised over $330,000 in support of arts education
in the Sisters Schools. |
Sisters Folk Arts Circle |
For
an annual monetary gift, members receive tickets to all the events produced
throughout the year, including all-events badges to the Sisters Folk
Festival, tickets to My Own Two Hands, the Winter Concert Series, Sponsor’s
Dinner, and much more. Members of the Folk Arts Circle help SFF Inc.
to provide concerts, cultural programs and educational workshops
throughout the year in central Oregon. |
